Day 1

A-Ha! It's over! The first day of my exciting writing endeavor. Well, exciting for me in any case.
What did I get done today, you may ask. Well, kind reader, the answer to that question is: very little.

I have decided upon the genre: science fiction. It's something I feel familiar with, thanks to reading plenty of it and even writing the occasional short story. My love for the Hitchhiker's Guide, as well as everything by Terry Pratchett also mean that it'll include a fair bit of humor, though after some thought, I decided that I want a primarily serious novel.

I also toyed with the idea of writing a sort of space mystery because admit it, you haven't read very many of those. Nevertheless, I threw the idea out as "likely to seem gimmicky unless I pull it off very well," and the fact that I'm not too great at thinking up mysteries solidified that decision.

While I was enjoying the snowy mountains this morning, I decided that I definitely want at least part of the book set on Earth, but much of the plot and action will revolve about traveling into space. Perhaps I will take a tech heavy approach, but once again, my lack of experience could make this approach disastrous.

So what do I have so far? An idea: a space travel oriented sci-fi novel, set both on Earth and in space, and full of action and a good amount of humor. Sounds like a plan. Let's really get to work on it tomorrow!
